Mastodons and Broncos Ready for Midweek Doubleheader

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After picking up its first win of the season the IPFW softball team returns to action for a midweek doubleheader with Western Michigan on April 1. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. with game two to follow.

Scouting the Mastodons
IPFW picked up its first win of the season over the weekend, defeating Western Illinois 6-4 in their series opener. The 'Dons tallied a season-high 11 hits in the win, as all nine starters recorded at least one hit. Kaitlyn Biere picked up the complete game victory, scattering eighth hits. In game two, Avery Nelson and Kelly Pevely connected on back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning of the 20-3 loss. Nelson's homer was her third of the season to lead the Mastodons. The series finale saw IPFW fall 8-0.
Scouting the Broncos
On Saturday, Western Michigan was swept by Ohio, 9-8 and 3-2 in their first Mid-American Conference series of the season. Kelsea Cichocki led the Broncos on the day going 6 for 10 with one RBI and two runs scored. In game one, the Broncos jumped out to an 8-3 lead but gave up six unanswered runs. Taylor Sanicki belted a two-run home run in the top of the first for her first homer of the year. Game two went to extra innings where the Bobcats used a walk-off single. Pitcher Allyson Kus went the distance for WMU surrendering three runs on nine hits while striking out three.
