Mastodon Bats Stifled Against Bulldogs

INDIANAPOLIS - The IPFW offense - which came into the weekend leading the NCAA in runs scored and was top-10 in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage, was stifled against the Butler pitching staff, falling to the Bulldogs 12-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Mastodons were held to just three hits, one each from Kendall Whitman, Greg Kaiser, and Jon Timmermen. Ryan Wells picked up the loss on the mound, falling to 1-2 on the season.
Butler jumped out quickly with four runs in the first inning and another in the second, before pulling away with a run in the fourth, two in the seventh, and four more in the eighth inning.
The Mastodons put two runners on in the third inning with a single and a hit by pitch, and the squad put a runner on third base in the fifth with a leadoff walk, a groundout and a fly-out, but each time the runners were left stranded on the bases.
The two squads meet up for two games on Sunday morning for the final two games of the series.
