Women's Tennis Falls to Nationally Ranked Pioneers

DENVER - The IPFW women's tennis team dropped its first Summit League match of the 2015 season, falling to 67th ranked Denver on Wednesday afternoon by a 6-1 score.

The Pioneers swept the doubles portion of the match, winning 8-3 at No. 3 pairs over Sara Sherif and Alina Schibol, before earning the doubles point with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Mayu Sato and Marcy Huck. Kristine Lindal and Carlota Trevino fell by an identical 8-3 score.

In singles, Denver got wins at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3) and No. 5 (6-3, 6-0), before a Pioneer 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles secured the victory for the hosts.

After back-to-back Denver wins at No. 4 and No. 2 singles, the Mastodons were able to avoid the shutout, while Sato remained undefeated in singles play during her Summit League career with a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 win at No. 1 singles in her attempt to earn back-to-back Summit League Player of the Year honors.

The Mastodons return to action on Friday, April 3, when the team faces off against the Omaha Mavericks.
