
Baseball to Host Western Illinois in Rearranged Schedule

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The weekend schedule that was originally slated to be one game each on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday has switched to a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Sunday due to the high probability of rain on Sunday. The schedule against the Western Illinois Leathernecks will now be a nine-inning game at noon on Friday with a second nine-inning game to follow immediately after. Saturday's game will remain a 3 p.m. start.

Freshman Brock Logan is just behind with a .337 batting average, while Evan VanSumeren (.326), Shane Trevino (.318), Brandon Soat (.314), and Greg Kaiser (.313) are each above the .300 marker, with Kendall Whitman just below at .281. Trevino and Kaiser have each hit a team-best five home runs this season, while Soat and Whitman have three. Trevino leads the team with 29 runs scored, as Soat has driven in 34 runs. VanSumeren leads the team with 11 doubles, while Trevino has four triples.

Western Illinois heads into the weekend having dropped six of its last eight games and five of the last six after splitting a mid-week doubleheader with Milwaukee on the 14th.
The Leatherneck offense is led by Jake Moore who is batting .291, while four others - JJ Reimer (.265), Payton Jeffers (.259), Mark Garton (.253), and Brent Turner (.252) hit above .250. Reimer has scored a team-best 24 runs, while Moore leads the team with four home runs and 18 RBI's. Chris Tschida has a team-best two triples, while Turner and Colton Pogue have six doubles. Reimer has also walked 14 times and has been hit by eight pitches, giving him a team-best .397 on-base percentage.
The pitching staff is led by game one starter Joe Mortillaro who is 2-3 with a 4.53 ERA. Preston Church has a 1-6 record to go with a 5.62 ERA; however, leads the team in strikeouts with 40, while Tom Constand has 35 strikeouts, second-most on the team.
