Mastodons Drop Pink Out Game to Bison

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -The IPFW softball team wrapped up its series with North Dakota State as the Mastodons hosted its annual Pink Out game to raise funds for the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. In the game, IPFW fell to the Bison 13-0.
Four different Mastodon batters collected a hit on the day. Jenna Balthazor, Whitney Ennis, Prestlee Cooper, and Lindsay Burke all went 1 for 2 at the plate for the 'Dons.
NDSU opened the game scoring twice in the first inning, despite not having a hit. The Bison added three runs in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth, and five more in the fifth.
The Mastodons had a runner reach in the bottom of the first on a North Dakota State error, but the team was unable to more her into scoring position.
The 'Dons had a scoring opportunity in the third inning as Cooper led off the frame with an infield single. Burke followed with a bunt single to put runners on first and second. After a groundout moved both runners into scoring position, a deep fly out ended the inning and the Mastodon rally.
IPFW had another opportunity in the fourth but were unable to convert. After the first two batters were retired, Balthazor singled through the right side. Ennis then delivered on a single up the middle to put two runners on but the chance stalled there as the final out was recorded.
Mastodon starting pitcher Sarah Lazarowich took the loss, allowing nine runs, four earned, in four innings of work. Kaitlyn Biere came on to pitch the final inning, allowing four runs, one earned, and striking out two.
IPFW returns to action on April 21 for a doubleheader at Bowling Green beginning at 3 p.m.
