Baseball Looks to Add to Win Streak Against Maple Leafs

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW baseball team will put its seven-game win streak on the line on Wednesday afternoon against the Goshen Maple Leafs in a 3 p.m. single game at Mastodon Field.

IPFW is riding its second seven-game win streak over the last two seasons, with series sweeps over Western Illinois and Omaha.,
As part of the series sweep against Omaha, first baseman Kendall Whitman was named the Summit League Player of the Week, and freshman pitcher Evan Miller the Summit League Pitcher of the Week.
This season the team has been offensively led by Greg Kaiser, who is batting .369 with a team-high six home runs and 13 doubles. Evan VanSumeren bats .337 for the year, as five others - Brock Logan (.314), Whitman (.307), Brandon Soat (.307), Shane Trevino (.306), and Jackson Boyce (.301) - all hit over .300. Soat has scored a team-high 39 times, while VanSumeren is tied for the team lead with 13 doubles, while Soat has a dozen. Trevino - who is tied for the team lead with six home runs - also has a team-high four triples and 43 RBI's.
Miller has a Summit League-best 71 strikeouts over 58 innings, to go with a team-best 5-2 record and 4.03 ERA. Trevor Storie has a 4-4 record with a 4.57 ERA, as Ryan Wells is second on the team with 55 strikeouts in 55 innings, and a 4-5 overall record. Jake Weber has a school-record nine saves this season, and has struck out 37 batters in 31.1 innings and has a 3-1 overall record as the team's closer.

Goshen comes into the game having won just two of its last 14 contests, with wins over Huntington and Spring Arbor. In the team's last game, a 5-0 loss to nationally ranked Mount Vernon, Goshen was held to just one hit, from right fielder Ryan Hartig to lead off the third inning.
Leading the offense for the Leafs is Vincent Caschera who is batting .309 with six home runs and 30 RBI's. Brad Stoltzfus bats .308 with nine doubles, while Cody McCoy hits .287. Preston Carr has scored 24 times to lead the team, and Urbano Hernandez has 19 RBI's.
Blake Collins, who has nine starts in 14 appearances, leads the team with four wins, a 4-8 overall record and a 5.83 ERA. Michael Walker leads the team with 50 strikeouts in 55.2 innings with a 2-5 record, while Zach Thompson has 37 strikeouts in 43.1 innings.
