On the day, Sierra Miranda (5-of-11) and Lauren Watson (5-of-12) led the Mastodons at the dish. Jessica Murray, Kelly Pevely, and Amber Davis all collected three hits. Pevely and Miranda led the 'Dons with three runs scored. Pevely and Murray also led the team with a pair of RBI on the day.
In its resumed game against Charleston Southern, the Buccaneers extended its 3-1 lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Mastodons answered in the sixth, plating three runs. The 'Dons loaded the bases on a pair of hits from Miranda and Caitlyn DeLong, after Murray was hit. A pair of CSU errors led to all three Mastodon runs.
The Bucs added a pair of runs with two outs in the bottom half of the sixth, as IPFW was unable to reach base in the seventh. Demitra Burns took the complete game loss in the circle for the 'Dons, surrendering nine runs on 11 hits while striking out three.
The Mastodons then took on Towson in what was originally scheduled to be the first game of the day. After the Tigers scored with two outs in the top of the second, the 'Dons responded with four runs in the bottom of the third. With two outs in the inning, Pevely delivered a double to left, scoring Watson. Davis and Miranda followed with singles to score two more runs. Murray ended the inning with a double to the right-center gap, plating the final run.
Towson followed with a run in the fourth, six in the fifth, two in the sixth, and two more in the seventh. Pevely led off the bottom of the seventh by taking the first pitch over the center field wall for the first Mastodon home run of the season. IPFW loaded the bases later in the inning but were unable to push across another run.
Burns suffered her second loss of the day, allowing seven runs, five earned, in three innings of work, but walked none while striking out three. Elizabeth Snodgrass started in the circle for the 'Dons, allowing five runs on four hits over four innings of work and striking out two Tigers.
The 'Dons concluded the day with a rematch against Charleston Southern. The Bucs opened the game with two in the bottom of the first, coming off a single, and a sac fly. They added another run in the bottom of the third, coming off a leadoff homer.
IPFW fought back, earning two runs in the sixth inning after Emily Olszewski came home on a Buccaneer error. Pevely grabbed the second run of the inning following a fielder's choice from CSU. Jenna Balthazor drew a walk to load the bases with two outs, but the Mastodons were unable to push across another run. The 'Dons would put two on in the seventh, aiming to tie the game, but IPFW popped out to end the game.
Sarah Lazarowich was left with the complete game loss, giving up three runs, one earned, off six hits while striking out five.
IPFW returns to action when it travels to Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the Chattanooga Spring Classic. The Mastodons will open the tournament against UT Martin on February 19 at 11 a.m., followed by Wright State at 1:30 p.m. IPFW will also face Detroit, Dayton, and Chattanooga during the three-day tournament.
