Emily Olszewski led the 'Dons on the day going 2 for 4 at the play with two RBIs and two runs. Lauren Watson and Caitlyn DeLong each finished 2 for 4 with a run scored, while DeLong added an RBI. In all, seven Mastodons had a hit.
Demitra Burns earned her first collegiate victory, throwing 2 2-3 innings in the circle, allowing one unearned run on two hits. Sarah Lazarowich earned her first career save, coming on to pitch the final three innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits. Elizabeth Snodgrass began the game on the mound for the 'Dons but had a no decision after lasting 1 1-3 innings and surrendering two runs, one earned, on two hits.
Watson led off the game with a triple to right center, but would be out at home on a suicide squeeze attempt. Chattanooga scored with two outs in the bottom half of the first on a double. The Mocs added another two-out run in the second.
The Mastodons pushed across three runs in the top of the third, all coming with two outs. Watson got things started with a single and Olszewski followed with a double to right field, scoring Watson. After Olszewski scored on a wild pitch and Jessica Murray drew a walk, Kelly Pevely and Amber Davis capped the scoring with back-to-back singles.
The 'Dons added another run in the fourth thanks to a UTC error but the Mocs responded with a run of their own in the bottom half on a wild pitch.
IPFW added two more runs in the top of the fifth. With one out, Sierra Miranda singled and Kristen Zarate doubled. DeLong followed with a single to left, scoring Miranda. Sydney Windlan popped up to the UTC shortstop, but the throw back to the pitcher was wild, allowing Zarate to score. The 'Dons scored their final run in the sixth on an RBI groundout from Pevely after Olszewski singled to lead off the inning.
Lazarowich got into a jam in the seventh, allowing two Chattanooga runs, but the senior pitched out of further damage and picked up the save.
IPFW returns to action for the two-day Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic, in Gulfport, Mississippi, beginning February 26. The Mastodons will face Incarnate Word, Nicholls State, Jackson State, and Southeastern Louisiana.
