Mastodons Travel South for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic

GULFPORT, Miss. - The IPFW softball team returns to action February 26 and 27 for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic, hosted by the City of Gulfport, where the Mastodons will play four games.

PREVIEWING THE TOURNAMENT
IPFW is coming off the Chattanooga Spring Classic where the Mastodons went 2-3. The 'Dons defeated the host Mocs and Horizon League member Detroit. IPFW dropped games to UT Martin, Wright State, and Dayton. Kelly Pevely led the team hitting .438 on the weekend and hitting two solo home runs. Amber Davis hit .385 in five games while Emily Olszewski led the 'Dons with five runs scored and four RBIs.
In the circle, Sarah Lazarowich and Demitra Burns each picked up a win and a save. Lazarowich finished the week throwing 15 innings in three appearances with a 1.87 ERA. Burns threw a complete game while appearing in four of the five games.
At the tournament in Mississippi, IPFW will meet all four of its opponents for the first time as a program. The 'Dons will take on Incarnate Word and Nicholls State on day one. The Mastodons close out the weekend against Jackson State and Southeastern Louisiana.
