In the opener, IPFW trailed 4-0 through three innings, 6-4 after five and 7-6 going into the ninth inning before scoring three runs for the come-from-behind win. The Mastodons got things going in the fourth with two runs on four hits, including RBI singles by Whitman (3-5, 4 RBIs) and redshirt-sophomore Shannon Baker (1-5, RBI). Whitman's hit plated senior Brandon Soat (3-4, RBI), who had singled to open the frame, while Baker's hit scored Whitman. IPFW added two more runs in the fifth on a pair of hits, including a two-run single by Whitman that drove home junior Jackson Boyce (1-2) and Soat, who had walked and singled, respectively.
IPFW scored two runs in the seventh on two hits, again, including a run-scoring triple down the right field line from Soat that plated Boyce, who had reached on an infield single. Whitman added an RBI sacrifice fly to left field that scored Soat. The Mastodons scored the decisive three runs in the ninth on three hits, the big blast being a three-run home run to right field by VanSumeren (1-4, 3 RBIs) that followed walks to Logan (0-0), who was pinch-run for by Wilson, and Soat.
Phelps (1-0) earned the pitching win for IPFW with an inning of late relief, yielding no hits and an unearned run with one strikeout and no walks. Redshirt-junior Jake Weber (3) garnered his third save with the final scoreless inning, allowing no hits with one strikeout and no walks. Junior Mitchell Ley had started for the Mastodons and tossed the first 4.0 innings, yielding six hits and five runs, four earned, with one strikeout and three walks. Senior Kyle Orwig pitched 3.0 innings in relief, scattering two hits and one earned run with no strikeouts and one walk.
Little Rock was led offensively by Ryan Scott (2-4, 2 RBIs) and Zach Baker (2-4, 2 RBIs) with two hits and two RBIs, respectively, while Keenan Wingfield (1-1) took the mound loss in relief with 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs with one strikeout and two walks.
In the nightcap, IPFW fell behind 4-2 after two innings and was behind 7-2 through five before adding three runs in the seventh and one more run in the eighth inning to make it 7-6. Little Rock added an insurance run in the eighth. The Mastodons scored two runs in the second inning on two hits, including an RBI single by Soat (2-4, RBI) that scored senior Jonathan Valenzuela-Reece (0-2), who had walked. The other run was scored unearned by Boyce (1-4), who had reached on a fielder's choice, and crossed the plate when VanSumeren (1-4, RBI) reached on an error.
In the seventh, IPFW scored three runs on three hits, including an RBI double from senior Greg Kaiser (1-5, RBI) and a two-run double by Logan (2-5, 2 RBIs), both with two outs. Kaiser's hit scored VanSumeren, who had singled, while Logan's plated both Whitman (0-4) and Kaiser – Whitman drawing a walk earlier during the at-bat. In the eighth, VanSumeren's RBI sacrifice fly to center field scored Boyce, who had reached on an infield single.
Senior Trevor Storie (1-1) started for IPFW and pitched the first 4.1 innings while taking the loss, yielding nine hits and seven runs, five earned, with seven strikeouts and three walks.
