Softball Drops Final Game in Florida

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The IPFW softball team dropped its final game in the USF Series - Under Armour Showcase to East Carolina 5-1.
Amber Davis led the way for the Mastodons at the plate going (2 for 3) while Emily Olszewski, Kelly Pevely, Sierra Miranda, and Sydney Windlan all had one hit for the game.
The Pirates got on the board first in the second inning by scoring off two RBI singles. East Carolina would add more in the third scoring on a wild pitch. The 'Dons would start a rally in the fourth starting with an Olszewski single to left field.
After Olszewski was thrown out at second, Pevely singled up the middle then advanced to third on a Davis single. Davis would advance to second on the throw. Then a Miranda single would score Pevely and advance Davis to third. A strikeout would end the rally for IPFW.
The Pirates would add another run on a bases loaded walk in the fifth and then would add one more in the sixth inning. The Mastodons would have an opportunity to score with a runner in scoring position in the seventh. Davis singled down the right field line and advance to second of a Windlan bunt single. A strikeout and fielder's choice would end the opportunity and game for the 'Dons.
Elizabeth Snodgrass started the game on the mound for IPFW pitching 2 2-3 innings, giving up three earned runs while recording two strikeouts. Demitra Burns would come in relief for the next 2 1-3 innings and gave up one run but added two strikeouts. Sarah Lazarowich would pitch the last two innings for the Mastodons giving up one earned run.
The team returns to action March 16 to face Eastern Illinois in a double header for their first home games of the year.
