CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The IPFW softball team was unable to overcome some early errors and lost to Maine 7-4.
Jessica Murray and Lauren Watson both went (2 for 4) on the day, Kelly Pevely, Sierra Miranda, and Taylor Lyman all added a hit for the 'Dons.
Maine started the scoring off with one run in the first inning and three in the second. IPFW quickly answered in the third with a Murray double down the left field line that scored Watson from second. The Black Bears would rattle off three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
In the Mastodon sixth, Miranda reached on a fielders choice but scored Murray on the play. Later in the inning with the bases loaded Lyman hit a single up the middle to score Amber Davis from third. Watson would then single through the right side to score Miranda on the play, but the rally would end there.
Sarah Lazarowich started on the rubber for the 'Dons pitching three innings and gave up four runs, one earned. Elizabeth Snodgrass would come in for relief and gave up three runs, two earned, in two innings of work. Demitra Burns came on next and threw a scoreless sixth inning for IPFW.
The squad returns to action March 11-13 to play in the USF Series - Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Florida.
