Mastodons Drop Final Non-League Game to Crusaders
4/26/2016 7:34:00 PM | Softball
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW softball team had a tough time getting its bat going in a mid-week game against Valparaiso as the Mastodons fell 6-0.
Emily Olszewski had the lone hit of the day for the 'Dons, a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh.
The Crusaders scored all of their runs in the second and third innings. Valpo scored on three singles and a sacrifice fly in the second. They added two runs in the third after a Mastodon error was followed by a home run.
The 'Dons were unable to get a runner on base until the fifth inning when Demitra Burns drew a two-out walk. To lead off the bottom of the seventh, Olszewski took a 2-0 pitch to the left-center gap, breaking up the Crusader no-hit bid. One out later, Kelly Pevely drew a walk to put a pair of runners on, but the next two outs were recorded to end the game.
In the circle, Sarah Lazarowich took the loss, allowing five earned over four innings of work. Elizabeth Snodgrass came on in relief for the final three innings, allowing only one hit, and recording a pair of strikeouts.
IPFW closes out its home schedule when it hosts South Dakota State for a Summit League series April 30-May 1.
