Softball Honors Trio on Senior Day
4/30/2016 5:15:00 PM | Softball
Before the first game of the day, IPFW honored its three seniors Taylor Gordy Prescott, Sarah Lazarowich, and Emily Olszewski.
Jessica Murray was a perfect 3-3 in game two, with a double and a home run. Lauren Watson collected a pair of hits on the day for the Mastodons. Amber Davis added a home run of her own while Demitra Burns and Kelly Pevely each finished with a hit.
In the opener, the 'Dons and Jackrabbits exchanged runs in the second and third innings. SDSU scored first with a two-out single in the top of the second. IPFW got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as Davis connected for her first career home run. Davis took a 3-2 pitch over the right field fence for a solo homer, tying the game.
The Jacks broke the game open in the fourth, scoring 11 runs in the inning on nine hits, including four consecutive home runs. The Mastodons got a one-out single from Pevely in the fourth, but were unable to push across a run in the final two innings to extend the game.
Lazarowich took the loss in the circle, throwing 3 1-3 innings and allowing six runs on five hits. Elizabeth Snodgrass entered to pitch 1-3 an inning while Burns came on for the final 1 1-3 and surrendered just one hit.
IPFW had a tough start to game two. After the 'Dons left a pair of runners on in the bottom of the first, South Dakota State scored 13 runs in the top of the second, 11 of which came with two outs. The Jackrabbits added another run in the third and two more in the fifth.
The Mastodons put up runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Burns singled to right. A sacrifice bunt and a pair of wild pitches allowed pinch runner Sydney Windlan to score.
The final run of the game came with one out in the fifth when Murray connected on her second home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.
Lazarowich suffered the loss in the second game, allowing only two earned runs in 1 2-3 innings. Burns came in to pitch the final 3 1-3 and allowing three runs, one earned, while striking out three.
IPFW closes out the regular season when it travels to Western Illinois for a three-game series May 6-7.
