In the nightcap, IPFW took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Soat (2-5, 2 RBIs) opened the game with a solo home run to left field for his second homer this season. The Mastodons added another run in the fifth inning, getting a run-scoring single down the right field line from sophomore Zak Kellogg (2-4, RBI) that scored redshirt-sophomore Shannon Baker (1-4), who had reached on a throwing error at shortstop.
IPFW scored four runs on six hits in the seventh inning to take a 6-2 advantage. Soat had an RBI single with the bases loaded that plated Baker, who had got things started with a one-out single, followed by consecutive singles from Kellogg and junior Jackson Boyce (1-4). Kellogg scored courtesy of a wild pitch before senior Evan VanSumeren (2-5, RBI) added a run-scoring double to left field to drive home Boyce. Soat was out at the plate when senior Greg Kaiser (1-4) reached on a fielder's choice, while Trevino added an RBI single to score VanSumeren.
