
IPFW Plays Purdue Tuesday Evening In Kokomo

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- IPFW will play Purdue University of the Big Ten Conference in its final non-league baseball game of the season on Tuesday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Kokomo Municipal Stadium in Kokomo. The Mastodons have won six-straight games, and 14 of their last 19, for an overall record of 27-24, while the Boilermakers have an overall record of 7-42. IPFW defeated Purdue, 4-3, last Tuesday (May 10) in West Lafayette.

IPFW will send senior right-handed pitcher Kyle Orwig to the mound for the starting assignment against Purdue. He has made eight mid-week starts for the Mastodons, compiling a 4-2 record in those games, including the decision in last week's road win against the Boilermakers. Orwig has made 12 appearances overall, including the eight starts, with a 4-2 overall record and a 4.39 ERA through 41.0 innings with 26 strikeouts.
IPFW will look for offensive support from senior Brandon Soat, redshirt-senior Greg Kaiser, junior Jackson Boyce, seniors Kendall Whitman and Jonathan Valenzuela-Reece, redshirt-sophomore Brock Logan and redshirt-senior Shane Trevino. Soat is hitting .329 with four home runs, 11 doubles and 33 RBIs. Kaiser, who hit a three-run home run at Purdue a week ago, is hitting .299 with 13 home runs, 18 doubles and 40 RBIs. Boyce is hitting .292 with two home runs, eight doubles and 17 RBIs. Whitman is hitting .283 with one home run, eight doubles and 24 RBIs. Valenzuela-Reece is hitting .257 with two home runs, three doubles and 18 RBIs. Logan is hitting .253 with five home runs, 10 doubles and 24 RBIs. Trevino is hitting .247 with 10 home runs, seven doubles and 34 RBIs.
IPFW will close its regular season against Western Illinois University in a three-game Summit League home series later this week, May 19-21, at Mastodon Field in Fort Wayne.
