Scouting the Mastodons
Fort Wayne men's soccer (5-3-0) pulled off their second overtime win of the season on Monday when Oscar Uyamadu scored in the second overtime to top UTRGV. The 'Dons own 18 goals on the season, the most in the Summit League. Four Mastodons have three or more goals on the year. The 2016 squad has already equaled last season's win total.
Scouting the Pioneers
The Pioneers enter Saturday's match 8-0-2 on the season and ranked No. 8 in the nation. They are coming off a tie at Creighton on Wednesday which stretched the Pioneers' unbeaten run in regular season matches, which dates back to 2014, to 26. Denver's other tie this season came in the season opener at Monmouth.
Series History
The Pioneers own a 4-0 record all-time against the 'Dons. Each of the meetings have come since Denver joined the Summit League in 2013. Included in that four-match history is a 3-0 defeat of Fort Wayne in the 2014 Summit League Tournament.
For Openers
Saturday's match will be the first Summit League contest of the year for the Mastodons. Recent history has seen two of Fort Wayne's last five league openers go to overtime. This will be the second consecutive season Fort Wayne opens league play on the road.
Dayton Match Rescheduled
The road match at Dayton which was originally scheduled or Sept. 17, but was postponed due to unplayable field conditions at Dayton, has been rescheduled. The two clubs will now play Oct. 11 at Baujan Field in Dayton. The contest will start at 7 p.m.
Evansville All-Tournament Team
Thilo Korperich and Zach Tom were named to the All-Tournament Team at Evansville's ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic (Sept. 9-11).
Last Time Out
Fort Wayne rallied from deficits of 2-1 and 3-2 to force overtime and eventually beat UTRGV 4-3. A key to the comeback was Jorge Trujillo's save of a UTRGV penalty kick in the second half.
Looking Ahead
The 'Dons will welcome Oral Roberts to town on Saturday (Oct. 1) in the first home Summit League contest of the season for the 'Dons. The match will start at 7 p.m. It will be the second match of the day at Hefner as the Fort Wayne women will host South Dakota State at 1 p.m.
