Mastodons Drop Final Games of Total Control Sports Invitational

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Fort Wayne softball team was unable to pick up a victory on the final day of the Total Control Sports Invitational, falling to Eastern Illinois 10-0 and Loyola Chicago 6-0.
Amber Davis led the Mastodons on the day with a pair of hits. Sydney Windlan and Lauren Watson each collected a hit on the afternoon.
In the first game of the day, Eastern Illinois took the lead in the top of the first on a three-run home run. The 'Dons held them off the scoreboard until the fifth, when the Panthers came up with seven runs in the inning. The best chance for the Mastodons to push a run across came in the bottom of the fifth. Fort Wayne put two runners on with walks to Maria Palmegiani and Kristen Zarate with two outs.
Bailey Benefiel took the loss, throwing 4 2-3 innings in the circle for the Mastodons and allowing three earned runs while striking out two. Demitra Burns came on to record the final out of the fifth.
Game two saw Loyola Chicago score a run in each of the first two innings on pair of singles and a solo home run. Fort Wayne put two runners on in the fourth, but was unable to push across a run. The 'Dons stranded two more runners in the fifth on a Palmegiani walk and a Watson single. The Ramblers added three runs in the fourth and another in the sixth.
Olivia White pitched a complete game on the mound for the Mastodons, surrendering six runs, five earned, and fanning six.
Fort Wayne returns to the field for the two-day Black and Gold Tournament hosted by Alabama State February 18-19.
