Chilly Afternoon Contest Goes To Butler
3/10/2017 5:00:00 PM | Baseball
INDIANAPOLIS – Fort Wayne baseball dropped a non-conference contest at Butler on Friday (March 10) afternoon 2-0. A 36 degree temperature at first pitch helped keep both offenses at bay for the contest.
Butler had five hits in the entire game, with three coming in the first inning as they put two runs on the board.
Fort Wayne starter Jordan Martin settled in after the first inning. He didn't allow another Butler hit until sixth inning. He received the loss, dropping his record to 0-2, but pitched well with five strikeouts and no walks in 6.0 innings. Jake Weber tossed the final two innings.
Butlers' Jeff Schank (2-1) went all nine innings to get the win. Fort Wayne's best opportunity came in the sixth. Jackson Boyce and Weber opened the inning hits but a double play followed to end the threat. Fort Wayne also had hits in the eighth and ninth, but couldn't push them around to score.
Boyce finished with two hits for the Mastodons.
The low scoring game was played in just under two hours.
Butler is now 8-6. Fort Wayne falls to 3-11. Saturday's game will be postponed due to weather. The two clubs will play again on Sunday in a 1 p.m. ET first pitch.
