Fort Wayne was on the board first thanks to a solo run in the fourth inning. Kellogg singled in Brandon Yoho with two outs.
Butler broke on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with five runs. The Mastodons made it a 5-3 game two innings later with two runs in the top of the sixth. Jackson Boyce had a two-RBI single in the frame. However the Bulldogs pulled away with five runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Mitchell Ley is 1-2 after receiving the loss. He started and threw 3.2 innings, giving up two earned runs. Connor Mitchell threw 3.2 innings in relief to get the win for Butler. His record is now 2-0.
Butler improves to 9-6. Fort Wayne falls to 3-12.
The 'Dons don't have a midweek game scheduled this week as they prepare for the Summit League opener this Friday at Western Illinois. It will be the first of a three-game series.
