DeLong and Burns Homer in Series Finale

Brooke Imel led all players in the game going 3 for 4 with a double, while driving in a run and scoring once. DeLong and Maria Palmegiani each went 2 for 4, while DeLong scored twice and had three RBIs. Burns also finished with a home run and two RBIs.
SDSU opened the game scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first. The Jackrabbits added three more runs in the third.
The 'Dons got on the board in the top of the fourth. After Palmegiani reached on an error, one out later DeLong deposited a 1-2 pitch over the centerfield wall for her fifth home run of the season. The Jacks retaliated in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run.
Fort Wayne responded again in the fifth by scoring five times. Imel got things going with an RBI double to right center. One out later, Imel scored on an RBI groundout by Sydney Windlan. DeLong followed with a single to left, bringing home a run. Finally, Burns capped off the inning with her first home run of the season, a two-run shot to center.
In the sixth, South Dakota State tacked on one final run with a leadoff home run.
Elizabeth Snodgrass started in the circle for the Mastodons to take the loss in 1-3 an inning of work. Bailey Benefiel came on to throw the final 5 2-3, allowing eight runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out two.
Fort Wayne returns to action Tuesday, April 18, when it travels to Eastern Illinois for a 5 p.m. ET first pitch.
