MEN'S PREVIEW:
The 'Dons took fourth place at last year's championship meet. It was the best finish by a Mastodon men's team in a Summit League meet. The 'Dons were led by Logan Kitchen. His 10th place (25:27.10) individual finish earned him All-Summit League Second Team honors and was the best ever individual finish by a Mastodon at a men's cross country Summit League Championship event. Kitchen returns with Purdue Fort Wayne's top three finishers from last year. Alex Barton was 20th (26:12.50) and Bret Unger was 23rd (26:34.20) last year. This will be the first time Omaha hosts the cross country championship.
THE FIELD:
South Dakota State has won the last two team titles. They are ranked No. 11 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional rankings.
WOMEN'S PREVIEW:
Purdue Fort Wayne's Emma Rafuse owns the league's fastest times this season in both the 5K (16:58.9) and the 6K (20:44.5). She has three Summit League weekly awards this year. Rafuse finished as the runner-up at last year's Summit League Championship. She is looking to become the first Mastodon to win the title since Crystina Martinez in 2008. Last year at the Summit League Championship, Rebecca Sippel took 28th (22:45.45) and Sophia Hirzel earned 35th (23:15.39) to round out Purdue Fort Wayne's top three. They both return for the 'Dons this year as they look to improve on last year's fifth place finish.
THE FIELD:
South Dakota enters the league meet ranked No. 4 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Rankings. South Dakota State is ranked No. 15. This will be the first Summit League meet for North Dakota. Denver doesn't field a cross country program while Omaha has only a women's team.
