‘Dons Split At Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Following a rainout on Saturday, the Fort Wayne Mastodons returned to the diamond on Sunday (Feb. 18) to continue their season-opening series at Alabama A&M. The Mastodons picked up their first win of the season in the opener before falling in the nightcap.
Game One – Fort Wayne 7, Alabama A&M 4
Zak Kellogg and Travis Upp each had two hits.
The Mastodons broke open to a 4-0 lead thanks to four-run third inning. It was a 4-2 game in the eighth when the 'Dons put it away with a three spot. Kellogg had an RBI groundout to score Upp and Dylan Wilbert had a two-RBI single in the frame.
Damian Helm earned the win. Dalton O'Boyle picked up the save with two strikeouts in the ninth. Blaine Milam took the loss for Alabama A&M.
Game Two – Alabama A&M 5, Fort Wayne 2
In a game scheduled for seven innings, Fort Wayne went up 2-0 with single runs in the second and fourth innings. Wilbert scored in the second and Brock Logan scored in the fourth.
Alabama A&M tied it with a two-run fourth. The Bulldogs added one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Shane Odzark started and took the loss for the 'Dons. He gave up two earned runs over 5.0 innings with five strikeouts. Jaret Britt earned the win for the Bulldogs.
Wilbert and Upp each had two hits in game two.
Fort Wayne is 1-2. Alabama A&M is 2-1.
The 'Dons travel to Little Rock this weekend for a four-game series starting on Friday (Feb. 23).
