Lauren Watson led all players going 3-for-4 on the afternoon, as no other player in the game had more than one. Payton Hollis, Lexi Smalarz and Lacey Wilzbacher each finished with an RBI.
Both starting pitchers were on their game early as they limited the offenses to just one hits through the first 3 1-2 innings. Tennessee State score first, pushing across two runs in the bottom of the fourth on three straight hits with one out.
The Mastodons came back in the top of the seventh to tie the game. After a leadoff walk, Stephanie Hanic double to left field. A bunt down the third base line from Smalarz scored pinch runner Courtney Holm. Wilzbacher followed with a single through the right side, scoring Hanic and tying the game.
With the International Tiebreaker in place in the eighth, the 'Dons got on the scoreboard right away as Hollis singled to right center, scoring Sydney Windlan. Bailey Benefiel hit the first batter she faced in the bottom half of the eighth, but retired the next three batters, two by strikeout, to give Fort Wayne the victory.
Shaina Eyre started in the circle for the Mastodons, throwing 3 1-3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out two. Benefiel came on to shutout the Tigers over the final 4 2-3 to pick up her fourth win of the season. She allowed only one hit and one walk while striking out six TSU batters.
