Softball's Fifth Inning Rally Not Enough to Secure Victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Fort Wayne softball team scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but the Mastodons were unable to stop a comeback by Bradley as they fell 7-3 to close out the Blues City Classic.
Maria Palmegiani and Morganne Denny each collected two hits on the day and drove in a run. Four other 'Dons each collected a hit in the game.
The Braves scored first with a run in the bottom of the second. The Mastodons came back in the fifth, scoring all three of their runs. After a leadoff walk, Lauren Watson and Lacey Wilzbacher singled to load the bases. Stephanie Hanic delivered a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Lexi Smalarz to score from third. Palmegiani followed with a single to left, scoring Watson. Denny capped off the inning with a single to center to bring home Wilzbacher.
Bradley rallied in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs, which included a pair of home runs.
Shaina Eyre started in the circle, throwing 5 1-3 innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits, dropping her record to 1-4 on the season. Demitra Burns came on for the final 2-3 inning and surrendering one hit.
Fort Wayne continues its Spring Break trip when the Mastodons travel to Samford on Tuesday, March 6 for a 5 p.m. ET game.
