Travis Upp Homers But ORU Breaks Tie Game In Eighth Inning

Dylan Wilbert had an RBI single in the second and Jacob Dickson recorded his own RBI single in the third to put the Mastodons up 2-0. It became a 4-0 Fort Wayne lead with a two-run home run by Travis Upp in the fourth. Upp's home run scored Brock Logan. Fort Wayne's lead disappeared when Oral Roberts scored four in the bottom of the fourth. It stayed 4-4 till the eighth when ORU broke it open with eight runs.
Fort Wayne starter Brandon Phelps went four innings and earned a no decision after allowing four runs (two earned) with three strikeouts. Cameron Boyd (0-2) took the loss for the 'Dons, tossing 3.2 innings.
Brady Hettinger had a pair of hits and stole a base for the 'Dons.
Nick Rotola recorded four hits for ORU. Reliever Grant Townsend (4-0) received the win.
ORU improves to 18-14 and a league-best 9-4 in the Summit League. Fort Wayne falls to 6-22 (2-11 Summit). The two teams will play game two of the three-game set on Saturday.
