South Dakota State Takes Two Summit League Games

JOPLIN, Mo. – Winter weather in the Midwest forced Fort Wayne's series at South Dakota State to be played on the campus of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri on Saturday (April 7) afternoon . SDSU won both games of the doubleheader.
Game One – South Dakota State 10, Fort Wayne 0
South Dakota State took the lead for good after a five-run first. They added three in the fourth and two runs in the seventh to end the contest.
Fort Wayne's only hit was a Travis Upp single in the second inning. SDSU starter Brady Stover went 6.1 innings for the win. He is now 1-1 after recording 13 strikeouts. Brandon Phelps took the loss for the 'Dons. He is now 3-3.
Newt Johnson knocked in four runs in the contest.
Game Two – South Dakota State 7, Fort Wayne 2
Jacob Dickson put the 'Dons up in the third with a solo home run to left field on the first pitch he saw. SDSU was quick to respond, tying it in the bottom half of the frame and going up 2-1 with a single run in the fourth. Brandon Yoho knocked in Shannon Baker in the fifth to tie the game at two.
It stayed tied at two until the eighth when SDSU broke the game open with five runs.
The 'Dons had 10 hits in game two, with Mike Snyder notching four including a double. Fort Wayne had their chances, but finished the game stranding 11 men.
Starter Damian Helm went four innings. Cameron Boyd didn't allow a run in three innings of relief. Trevor Armstrong took the loss for the 'Dons. He is now 0-2. Derek Feige picked up the win for SDSU. He is 1-0.
