Cross Country Heads to South Bend on Friday Afternoon

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Mastodons will head to South Bend for the Joe Paine Invitational Friday (Sept. 28) afternoon hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

Where: South Bend, Ind. | Burke Golf Course
Men's Field: Baylor, Calvin, Central Michigan, Clemson, Duquesne, Eastern Illinois, Indiana State, LSU, Purdue Fort Wayne, Saint Louis, UC Riverside, UTEP, Green Bay and Youngstown State.
Women's Field: Calvin, Duquesne, Eastern Illinois, Incarnate Word, IUPUI, Nebraska-Omaha, Purdue Fort Wayne, Saint Louis, South Carolina, UC Riverside, Utah Valley, UT-Arlington, UTEP, Western Michigan, Green Bay and Youngstown State.
MEN'S PREVIEW (5 Mile)
The Mastodons return to the course on Friday after a two week break from competition. At the Spartan Invitational on September 14, the 'Dons finished 14th overall in their first 8K race of the season. Junior Alex Barton led the way with a time of 27:24.6 to finish in the 81st spot. Logan Kitchen was 10 spots back in 91st with a time of 27:35.6. Friday's meet at Notre Dame will be a five mile race, a distance that is about 7.97 kilometers.
WOMEN'S PREVIEW (5K)
Thanks to a time of 20:44.5, Emma Rafuse set a new 6K school record and earned a third place finish at the Spartan Invitational. Rafuse missed second by less than a second and first by less than five seconds. She was named the Summit League Athlete of the Week for her performance. Hannah Aschliman finished 46th with a personal record of 23:29.4. Rebecca Sippel turned in a time of 23:40.5 for 54th. The Mastodons will drop back down to a 5K distance at Notre Dame on Friday.
