'Dons Drop Pitchers Duel on Final Day of Opening Weekend

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to DePaul Sunday afternoon (Feb. 10), closing out the Mastodons' opening weekend at the Total Control Sports Invitational.
Abby Baez collected a pair of hits on the day, including a double, finishing the day 2-for-3. Four other 'Dons each collected a hit. For the game, the Mastodons out-hit the Blue Demons 6-to-4.
DePaul scored the lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. The 'Dons put runners on base in five of the innings. Their best opportunity came in the third when they had runners on the corners with no outs, before hitting into a double play.
Lauren McConnell earned the hard luck loss, allowing one unearned run in five innings. She struck out three while allowing four hits. Shaina Eyre came on to pitch the final inning, as she did not allow a hit.
Purdue Fort Wayne returns to action February 15-17 for the Black & Gold Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama.
