Baseball Looks To Continue Winning Ways At Alabama State

Purdue Fort Wayne, one of 50 undefeated teams in NCAA Division I baseball, heads to Alabama State this weekend.

When: Friday, Feb. 22 – 7 PM ET | Saturday, Feb. 23 – 7 PM ET | Sunday, Feb. 24 – 3 PM ET
Where: Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex | Montgomery, Ala.
Probable Starters: (Purdue Fort Wayne vs. opponent)
Game One: RHP Chase Phelps (1.50 ERA, 1-0) vs. RHP Darrius Wright (0-1, 30.37 ERA)
Game Two: RHP Cameron Boyd (4.50 ERA, 0-0) vs. RHP Darren Kelly (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Game Three: RHP Shane Odzark (6.75 ERA, 0-0) vs. TBA
Scouting the Mastodons (4-0): Purdue Fort Wayne took four games from Alabama A&M to open the season. Three of the games were one-run decisions. Alec Brunson hit .455 with five hits and three runs scored in 11 at-bats. Trevor Armstrong earned two wins on the mound for the Mastodons. Spencer Strobel and Sean Ferguson both had two no-run relief appearances. Jack Lang had four RBI on the weekend and one of seven Mastodon stolen bases.
Scouting the Hornets (2-1): The Hornets traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to open the season and earned a 23-12 win over Arkansas Pine Bluff and a 10-9 victory over Prairie View A&M before falling to Grambling State 3-1. The Hornets had two mid-week games scheduled this past week, but contests at South Alabama and Alabama were both postponed. Santiago Garcia is leading the team with a .400 average. He had seven RBI in the opening three games.
Series History: The Mastodons lead 2-1. The only time the two clubs have played was in 2013. The 'Dons fell in the opener 2-0 and won the next two 4-3 and 11-8.
It Was The Best Of Times: This is the first time as an NCAA Division I member the 'Dons have started a season 4-0.
Looking Ahead: The Mastodons travel to Southeast Missouri State on March 1-3 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Redhawks will have a series with Summit League member Western Illinois before the Mastodons come to town.
