Mastodons Fall In Middle Game At Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Andrew Lawvere hit a home run for the second straight game, but the Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team fell to Alabama State on Saturday (Feb. 23) evening 7-1.
Alabama State scored three runs in the third inning to open the scoring. Santiago Garcia had a home run in the frame off starter Cameron Boyd. The Purdue Fort Wayne starter Boyd struck out seven in 5.0 innings but suffered the loss. Darren Kelly earned the win for Alabama State with 4.0 shutout innings.
Purdue Fort Wayne's run came in the sixth on a solo home run by Lawvere. It was a 5-1 game in the eighth when the Hornets put two on the board to make the final 7-1.
Alec Brunson and Garrett Mohler had doubles for the 'Dons. They were one of six Mastodons to record a hit. The 'Dons had chances in the game, but stranded 10.
Alabama State improves to 4-1. The 'Dons fall to 4-2. The two clubs will close out the series on Sunday.
