Wilzbacher, Denny and Watson Collect Pair of Hits in Losses

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team dropped a pair of games during day two of the Total Control Sports Invitational, falling to Loyola-Chicago 2-0 and Detroit Mercy 5-3.
Lauren Watson, Lacey Wilzbacher, and Morganne Denny all collected a pair of hits on the day for the Mastodons. Wilzbacher also scored a pair of runs.
In the first game of the day, the Ramblers opened the game with a home run, before tacking on a run in the fifth. The Mastodons' best chance for a run came in the third when they loaded the bases with two outs, but were unable to push across a run.
Shaina Eyre took the loss, throwing 5 1-3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three. Alyssa Malicki came on to strike out both batters she faced.
In game two, the 'Dons jumped out in front when Alise Hale delivered and RBI single to center. The Titans scored all five of their runs in the top of the third, all of which came with two outs and were unearned.
Purdue Fort Wayne added a run in the bottom half of the third when an infield single by Watson resulted in a throwing error that allowed Wilzbacher to score. The Mastodons added another run in the fifth on an RBI single down the left field line by Maria Palmegiani.
Malicki took the loss, throwing 2 2-3 innings and surrendering four runs, all unearned, on three hits. Lauren McConnell pitched the final 4 1-3 innings, allowing one unearned run and three hits.
Purdue Fort Wayne wraps up its opening weekend when the Mastodons take on DePaul tomorrow, February 10, at 3 p.m. ET.
