Mastodons Fall on Final Day in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team dropped its final two games of the Belmont invitational, as the Mastodons fell to Lipscomb 10-2 and the host Bruins 8-0.

Game one saw Lipscomb score in each inning; two in the first, one in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth.

The Mastodons got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when they loaded the bases after a pair of hits by Brooke Imel and Lauren Watson, and a walk to Ashley Haas. Wilzbacher brought Imel home on a sacrifice fly down the left field line. The 'Dons added a run in the bottom of the fifth when Imel scored on a wild pitch.

Lauren McConnell threw a complete game as she struck out two.

Belmont opened the second game with a run in the bottom of the first. The Bruins scored three in the third, one in the fourth and ended the game with three more runs in the fifth.

Purdue Fort Wayne's best opportunity for a run came in the top of the fifth. With one out, Imel walked and Alise Hale followed with a single to put runners on first and second. The 'Dons were unable to bring a run home as the next two outs were recorded.

Shaina Eyre took the loss, allowing one run on two hits in two innings of work as she struck out three. Alyssa Malicki came on to pitch the final 2 2-3 innings.
