Scouting the Mastodons (5-36, 0-21 Summit League): Alec Brunson has 13 RBI on the season after knocking in two on Friday vs. Oral Roberts. Brunson is second on the team with 17 runs and 37 hits so far on the season. Leading the team in hits, Garrett Mohler added two hits this weekend to bring his season total up to 39. On the mound, Justin Miller threw 5.0 innings in Sunday's final game and held the Golden Eagles to two runs. Miller is scheduled to get the ball in the final game of the series. Purdue Fort Wayne's midweek contest with Butler this past week was rained out.
Scouting the Jackrabbits (21-17, 13-8 Summit League): Gus Steiger leads the Jackrabbits with a batting average of .318 and 34 runs for the season. Josh Falk and Drew Beazley rank in the top 10 for the Summit League with a slugging percentage of .504 and .473, respectively. Josh Falk adds to his stats with 31 RBI and eight home runs. Tyler Olmstead owns an ERA of 3.44 ranking him fourth in the Summit League, while Nic McCay is also ranked in the top 10 with an ERA of 4.18.
In The Rankings: Two 'Dons are in the top 10 in the Summit League in home runs. Andrew Lawvere ties for sixth with five and Garrett Mohler has four to tie for ninth.
Series History: South Dakota State leads the series 56-14. Last year, the Mastodons took a game off of South Dakota State, 6-5 at home. This season SDSU defeated Purdue Fort Wayne 5-4, 12-2 and 8-0 at Mastodon Field.
Looking Ahead: The Mastodons will compete in a non-conference game at Bowling Green on Tuesday (May 7) at 3 p.m.
