Softball Hosts Non-League Doubleheader for Senior Day Saturday

The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team will close out the regular season with a non-league doubleheader on Saturday, May 4 with the first game starting at 11 a.m. Three seniors Sydney Windlan, Lacey Wilzbacher, and Lauren Watson will be honored before the first game. The 'Dons will play Oakland at 1:30 and then Oakland and Ball State will play a neutral site game to close out the day.

Scouting the Mastodons (8-36): Lauren Watson leads the team with a .324 batting average and has recorded 20 runs and 46 hits on the season. In the three game series with Western Illinois this past weekend, Watson finished with three hits, two RBI and a run. Wilzbacher had a double to earn an RBI in the final contest up with the Leathernecks. Wilzbacher is second on the team with a batting average of .298, 16 runs and 36 hits. She has 51 hits and 41 runs on the season. At the mound, Sarah Venker leads the Cardinals with 98.1 innings pitched and a 13-5 record and a 2.85 ERA.
Series History: The Cardinals lead the series 10-6. The Mastodons last win came in 2014 when they beat the Cardinals 2-0 in the War Eagle Classic in Auburn, Alabama. The last time the 'Dons hosted the Cardinals was in April of 2013.
