Mastodons Earn Exhibition Victory

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Blake Cearns had a goal and an assist in Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer's 2-1 exhibition victory over Indiana Tech on Friday (Aug. 16) evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
Indiana Tech opened the scoring with a goal off a free kick in the 19th minute. Malte Dennert had the strike.
Purdue Fort Wayne tied the match in the 55th minute on a goal by Blake Cearns. Cearns jumped on a miscue for the Indiana Tech keeper and tapped it in the goal.
It was Cearns involved again for the winning goal in the 69th minute. His cross across the box found Jan Schumacher from just a few yards out for the goal.
Indiana Tech had a chance to tie it up, but Dennert's penalty kick in the 71st minute hit the post.
The contest featured only three shots on goal, all three went in the net.
Valparaiso is up next for the 'Dons in exhibition play. That contest will be played Sunday, August 25 at 5 p.m. on the road.
