Baseball Opens 2020 Season at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team will open the 2020 season this weekend at Longwood. It will be a four-game series with the doubleheader on Saturday set for a pair of seven inning games.

When: Friday, Feb. 14 – 3 PM ET | Saturday, Feb. 15 – Noon ET (DH) (two seven inning games) | Sunday, Feb. 16 – Noon ET

Purdue Fort Wayne: RHP Cameron Boyd, RHP Chase Phelps, RHP Tyler Kissinger, TBD
Longwood: LHP John Gregory, RHP Dominick D'Ercole, RHP Andrew Potojecki, and TBD
Scouting the Mastodons (0-0): Garrett Mohler and pitcher Cameron Boyd were named two players "to watch" by the Summit League. Mohler had six home runs last season as he led the team in hitting (.285) and slugging (.464). He also had a team-high 26 RBI. Boyd has thrown 116 innings for the 'Dons after moving into the rotation last year.
Scouting the Lancers (0-0): Longwood went 11-41 overall and 5-22 in Big South play last season. They finished 10th in the league. 17 Lancers return from last year while the roster features 14 new student-athletes. Lefty John Gregory was 3-4 last year with a team-best 22 appearances. He is scheduled to make the start in the opener against the 'Dons. The next two probable starters (Dominick D'Ercole and Andrew Potojecki) are both freshman.
Series History: First meeting
Tell Me Something New: This will be the first time the 'Dons open the season against someone other than Alabama A&M since 2011 when the 'Dons opened the season at Butler when a series at Pittsburgh was canceled.
First Year Skipper: Doug Schreiber takes over the Mastodons' program. He was previously the head coach at Purdue (1999-2016).
Looking Ahead: The Mastodons travel to Miami (Ohio) next week. It will be a three-game series in Oxford against the Redhawks.
