Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader at Longwood

Game One - Mastodons 8, Lancers 3
The Mastodons never trailed in the opener. They scored two in the second inning, five in the fourth and then added a single insurance run in the seventh.
Jack Lang doubled in two runs in the second inning. He was in the middle of it again in the fourth when he singled in a run and then came around to score on a Longwood error. Newcomer Garett Lake added a 2-RBI triple later in the frame to put the 'Dons up 7-1.
Longwood scored two in the bottom of the fourth to get within a grand slam but a Mastodon insurance run in the seventh put the final at 8-3.
Chase Phelps threw 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks. He notched four strikeouts.
William Wentz relieved Phelps and finished out the sixth and the seventh in 1-2-3 fashion.
The 'Dons gave up six hits in the contest, but all were singles. Meanwhile half of the Mastodons' eight hits were for extra bases.
Phelps got the win. Longwood's Dominick D'Ercole suffered the loss.
Game Two - Mastodons 11, Lancers 0
Aaron Chapman finished with four singles and scored twice. His four hits are a new career best for the sophomore. Trenton Stoner knocked in a career-high four runs and had three hits. Lake and Robert Young III each recorded two hits.
The 'Dons scored five runs in the first and sixth innings while adding a single run in the fifth. Purdue Fort Wayne recorded 14 hits in the game with Garrett Mohler's double being the only extra base hit. Stoner had a 2-RBI single in the first and fifth innings. Drew Reich recorded 3 RBI.
Tyler Kissinger threw 6.1 shutout innings to get the win. He had a career-high eight strikeouts. All three hits he gave up were singles.
Longwood pitcher Andrew Potojecki took the loss.
The 'Dons improve to 3-0. Longwood falls to 0-3. The two teams will play the fourth and final game of their season-opening series on Sunday (Feb. 16).
