'Dons End the Mastodon Invitational with Three First Place Finishes

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- After 11 months away from competition, the Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program hosted the Mastodon Invitational, Saturday (Jan. 23), at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.
Madison King opened the day with a victory in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:19.57. Kathy Potter, Mallory Clements, and Paige Benecke also competed in the 5000 meter run with times of 19:10.20, 19:34.61, and 20:15.81 respectively. King also completed the 3000 meter run in third place with a time of 10:15.40
Jai Reed (5.35m) added to the victories with a first place finish in the long jump followed by Dylan Kirkwood (5.00m) in fourth. Maddi Hardin and Abbigail Garwood debuted in weight throw and shot put. In shot put, Garwood (11.06m) finished third while Hardin (10.24m) finished fifth. Miranda Haney (1.57m), Kelsey Shatava (1.52m), Ramey Wilder (1.42m), and Allyssa Hennessey (1.42m) competed in the high jump. Haney was second overall and Shatava was third.
Leading the 'Dons in the 60 meter hurdles was Kirkwood (9.13) in first place, followed by Jesseca Hudson-Turpin (9.28) in second while Sophia Buck (9.66) finished seventh. In the finals of the 60 meter dash, Reed (8.34) and Jasmyne Rivera (8.53) finished seventh and eighth respectively. In the 200 meter dash, Hudson-Turpin, finished fifth. In the 400 meter dash, Maya Preece (1:01.73) finished second, Katie Clark (1:04.37) fifth, and Lauren Morales (1:09.55) eighth.
Gianna Stanich led the 'Dons with a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run. Angelina Sedlaczek had the best performance for the Mastodons in the mile with a time of 5:28.37. Stanich (5:40.71), Potter (5:45.65), and Benecke (5:47.35) also ran the one mile race for the 'Dons.
The Mastodons had three teams compete in the 4x400 race. Rachel Pierre-Louis, Clark, Preece, and Hudson-Turpin's relay earned first with a time of 4:15.81.
