Wright State Sweeps Purdue Fort Wayne WVB

DAYTON, Ohio - Defending Horizon League champion Wright State topped Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball on Saturday (Oct. 9) 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-16) in the C.J. McLin Gymnasium.
With the three-set match, Katie Crowe moved into third in program history in sets played. She has played in 485 sets and 132 matches, with the latter also being top-five in program history.
After a a kill from Ramei Jackson and a block from Madison Gates and Leigha Baldwin, the Raiders went on a 11-1 stretch to take an 18-8 advantage in set one. The 'Dons had a 6-2 push from this point that was capped off by a kill from Madison Gates, but Wright State had built enough of a lead to coast to the finish line.
The 'Dons could not get more than two points in a row until 18-16 in set two, when they forced the Raiders into three straight errors after a kill from Jackson. This forced WSU to call timeout. Later on, Purdue Fort Wayne held off three set points thanks to a kill from Maggie Castleman and two WSU errors, but Celia Powers got a kill to end the frame. Gates reached the double-double plateau in the second set. She finished with 16 assists and 11 digs.
In set three, Purdue Fort Wayne went on a 6-1 tear with two kills coming from both Sidney Schiller and Madelyn Wurster, and back-to-back blocks from Crowe and Jackson. WSU took five points in a row and never trailed again.
Purdue Fort Wayne had 11 team blocks to Wright State's five. Jackson led with six of those blocks, as Wurster and Baldwin had five block assists each. Rachael Crucis had 20 digs to lead the match.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 4-17, 2-6 Horizon League, while Wright State improves to 12-6, 4-2. The Mastodons have a mid-week match against Cleveland State on Tuesday (Oct. 12) in the Gates Sports Center. This is the only home match in the next two weeks, and will serve as the Mastodons' Pink Out match.
