Women’s Track & Field Wins Team Title at Mastodon Invitational

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field team defeated seven Horizon League rivals on Friday (Feb. 12) afternoon to win the Mastodon Invitational at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse. The day was highlighted with five first place finishes. The Mastodons scored 135 points. IUPUI was in second at 106. Robert Morris was in third at 104.
Madison King won the 5000m with a time of 17:47.44 and the 3000m in 10:14.16. The 4x400 relay squad earned a time of 4:05.42 to win by more than two seconds over IUPUI. Jai Reed won the long jump event and recorded a mark of 5.36m. She was second in the triple jump (10.50m.) The 'Dons went one-two in the high jump. Miranda Haney and Dylan Kirkwood jumped 1.55m with Haney getting the edge by doing it one jump prior to Kirkwood.
In the 5000m run, Mallory Clements finished in fifth, not far behind King, with a time of 19:08.54. Kathy Potter was sixth (19:45.83), Kiannah Sarver was seventh (20:14.22), Mercedes Sarver earned ninth (20:48.74) and Michaela Sheets rounded out for the 'Dons in 10th (22:14.63). Purdue Fort Wayne had a pair of top five finishes in the 800 meters. Makaila Groves was fourth (2:25.34) and Gianna Stannich was fifth (2:26.00).
Jesseca Hudson-Turpin picked up a second place finish in the 60 hurdles. She ran a time of 9.11 in the finals.
Maya Preece had a 26.39 finish in the 200 meters for second place. Katie Clark finished in sixth with a time of 27.25. Rachel Pierre-Louis was close behind in seventh and recorded a time of 27.53.
Purdue Fort Wayne will remain at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse as they host the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 26th through March 1st. It will be the Mastodons' second straight season of hosting a league indoor meet after hosting the Summit League meet last season.
