Two Mastodons Continue to Finals on Day Two

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Two Mastodons will proceed to finals in their events at the conclusion of day two of the 2021 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse on Saturday (Feb. 27).
Maya Preece earned a spot in the finals for the 400 meter dash and finished with a time of 59.57. Preece was seventh overall and will compete in the finals on Sunday (Feb. 28). Katie Clark finished in 11th with a time of 1:00.85 and Rachel Pierre-Louis was in 14th with a time of 1:01.58.
Dylan Kirkwood is the second Mastodon to move onto the finals in the 60 meter hurdles and finished in sixth place and recorded a time of 9.01. Jesseca Hudson-Turpin claimed the 13th spot in the hurdles with a time of 9.25.
Makaila Groves led the Mastodons in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.52 and earned 14th place. Gianna Stanich was a few places behind Groves in 18th and had a time of 2:27.98. Angelina Sedlaczek placed 20th (2:28.57), Brayden Langdon was in 24th (2:29.75) and Lauren Morales was 28th (2:31.06).
In the long jump, freshman Jai Reed made her way to a ninth place finish with a mark of 5.31m. Payton McHenry jumped to a mark of 4.71m and finished in 26th place.
Freshman Abbi Garwood threw a mark of 11.35m in the shot put and finished in 13th place. Maddi Hardin was in 19th with a mark of 10.08m.
Purdue Fort Wayne will continue to day three in fifth place with a team total of 21 points. The third day of competition will begin at 11 a.m. ET with the mile finals.
