Game One: Mastodons 5, Golden Grizzlies 4
The first game of the day was scheduled for seven innings. The Golden Grizzlies earned a lead in the second inning after Brandon Heidal hit a single to advance a runner home. Another single by Tyler Trovinger, in the third, scored the second run for Oakland. In the fourth, Brenton Phillips expanded the lead to four after singling to center field which allowed two runs to score.
Then came the fifth when the 'Dons manufactured four runs after the first three batters of the inning singled. Garett Lake singled in the first run and then Alex Evenson followed with an RBI single to make it a 4-2 game. Jack Lang singled with two outs to make it a 4-3 game. Lang was then involved in the tying run. He was on first and Evenson was on third. Lang took off for second and drew a throw. The throw got away and Evenson scampered home to tie the game.
Ryan Robison came in from the designated hitter spot to pitch the sixth. He saw the Golden Grizzlies put a runner in scoring position, but picked up back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning. Robison did the same in the seventh when Oakland put two in scoring position but Robison used two more strikeouts to keep the game tied at four.
Robison the came to the plate to start the seventh and opened the frame with a double. Evenson followed with a perfect sacrifice bunt attempt that forced a bang-bang play at first. The throw got away and Robison walked home for the game winning run.
Cameron Boyd went 5.0 innings for the 'Dons and earned a no-decision. Robison picked up the win and is now 1-0 on the season. Andrew Hill took the loss for the Golden Grizzlies.
Game Two: Mastodons 6, Golden Grizzlies 3
The 'Dons never trailed in game two after a four spot in the second inning. Evenson doubled in a pair of runs in the frame. Robert Young III had came in as a pinch hitter in the fifth inning and the substitution worked big time. He hit a home run, his first of the season, over the left field wall for a two-run shot. It put the 'Dons up 6-1.
Jacob Myer continued to excel on the mound with 7.0 innings of work. He earned the win after allowing two runs (one earned) with eight strikeouts. He walked just two and gave up five hits and moves to 3-0. Robison picked up a save in the game after entering in the eighth and then finishing out the game. He gave up just one hit in his two innings. He has four saves on the season.
Hill took the loss for Oakland. He is now 1-3. Oakland scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings.
