Softball Will Recognize Seniors With Weekend Series Against Green Bay

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball will be back in action on Friday and Saturday (April 30-May 1), welcoming Green Bay to Fort Wayne for four games. Saturday's game will be Senior Day.

Know Your Foe
Green Bay (20-16, 15-13) is coming off a 3-1 weekend with Cleveland State. Samantha Saloun (.380), Tiffany Giese (.359) and Bailey Schultz (.350) all rank in the top 10 in the Horizon League in batting average. Brittany Baneck (2.61) and Kayla Schwebke (2.81) are also in the top-10 in the League in ERA.
Senior Day
Saturday will be Senior Day for the Purdue Fort Wayne softball program. The 'Dons will recognize Rachel Everson, Kyndell Ethridge, Lexi Smalarz and Morganne Denny, who have dedicated their careers to the Mastodon program. Shaina Eyre and Emma McMillan, who are also seniors, are planning to return to Fort Wayne for another season.
The Series
The Mastodons and Phoenix have only played three times in their history, with two of those coming this season. The Phoenix took both games this year 12-4 and 8-4. Madeline Swart doubled three times in the two games in Wisconsin.
Pitcher of the Week
Shaina Eyre was named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week on April 20 after a 1-1 week with Northern Kentucky. In her first outing, the senior threw a complete shutout against the Norse, striking out two in the process. In the second outing, she allowed just one earned run while also striking out two Norse. For the week, Eyre had a 0.69 ERA with just the one earned run. She did not allow the Norse to get any multi-base hits in 55 plate appearances.
Taking Names and Series Finales
The Mastodons have taken the final game of four series this season: Evansville (8-7), Youngstown State (11-6), Robert Morris (9-5) and Northern Kentucky (3-1).
Goin' Yard
The Mastodons have 28 home runs this season, which is second in the Horizon League, even despite playing fewer games than all of the League teams that are still competing. The 'Dons are first in the League in home runs per game at 0.97. In Horizon League play only, the 'Dons have three more home runs than the next closest team. Freshman Meagan Mullaney leads the team with five, while Kyndell Ethridge, Morganne Denny, Olivia Stansbury and Alise Hale all have four each. The Mastodons' 28 home runs are the team's most in a season since 2014, when the 'Dons had 43.
High-Powered Offense
The Mastodons have scored eight or more runs seven times this season. The 'Dons are 6-1 in such games.
Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne split with Northern Kentucky on April 16 and 17, taking 1-0 and 3-1 wins over the Norse. After her performance, Shaina Eyre was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week.
