
Mastodons and Oakland Split First Two Games

Game One – Purdue Fort Wayne 12, Oakland 4 (scheduled seven inning game)
Purdue Fort Wayne scored in every inning but the second. The 'Dons never trailed after scoring a single run in the first inning. Aaron Chapman tripled with two outs and then Alex Evenson knocked Chapman in with a single.
Evenson had the biggest hit of the game in the third when he came up with the bases loaded and one out after three straight walks. Evenson doubled to left center to knock in all three. He finished with a career-high four RBIs.
Purdue Fort Wayne broke the game open with a five-run fifth.
Trenton Stoner finished with three hits. 11 different Mastodons scored, with only Chapman scoring twice for the 'Dons.
Andrew Lawvere hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the seventh.
Justin Miller started for the 'Dons and went 6.1 innings. He earned the win to move his record to 5-7. He gave up four hits and four runs (two earned). William Wentz threw the final two outs.
Bryce Konitzer is 3-2 after suffering the loss. He started and allowed 10 runs in 4.2 innings.

The Mastodons pounded out a season-high 18 hits. It is the most hits for the 'Dons in a game since a 19 total against Omaha on April 20, 2018.
The 'Dons scored three in the second and two in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth. That is when Oakland opened it up with an eight-run fifth. Cam Post had a two-run home run for the Golden Grizzlies in the inning.
Jack Lang smacked a solo home run to left field in the sixth.
The 'Dons put a major rally together in the seventh, scoring seven runs with two outs. Seven consecutive 'Dons got on base, thanks to six hits and a walk. Luke Miles and Evenson each had a two-RBI double in the inning.
Lang finished with three RBIs and two runs to go with his four hits. Chapman had three hits in game two to bring his hit streak to 12 games. Ryan Robison also had three hits while knocking in three.
Gerald Pintarich started and earned a no-decision. He went 3.1, giving up three runs. Trevor Armstrong suffered the loss in relief.
Travis Densmore picked up the win in relief for the Golden Grizzlies. Ben Paugh earned a save by throwing the final two innings.
Gabe Lux scored four times, knocked in four runs and had three hits for Oakland.
The Golden Grizzlies are now 16-29 (10-24 Horizon League). The 'Dons move to 11-33 (8-26 Horizon League). The two teams are scheduled to play single games on Saturday and Sunday but weather may dictate a doubleheader on Saturday.
