Mastodons Hit the Road For Horizon League Series at Robert Morris

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team will play at Robert Morris for three Horizon League softball games this weekend.

Know Your Foe
Robert Morris has the second-best record in Horizon League play this season at 11-3 and a 22-13 record overall. The Colonials' three league losses came to Cleveland State twice and Northern Kentucky. RMU is riding a four-game winning streak with three wins over IUPUI and one over Northern Kentucky. The Colonials had their doubleheader with Green Bay canceled this week. Jess Matheny is leading RMU at the plate with a .315 batting average. Erika Bell has a .298 average and 21 RBIs this season. Taylor Rhinehart has a team-leading ERA of 1.99 in 31.2 innings pitched. She had three of the team's wins, with her sister Rachael owning a 7-4 record. As a staff, the Colonials have a 4.36 ERA.
Series History
Purdue Fort Wayne has never played at Robert Morris in the 16-year history of the series. The two teams met three times between 2006 and 2009 in tournaments in Florida, then another in 2018. The 'Dons and Colonials met for the first time as Horizon League foes last season, which saw RMU win three of the four-game series. The Mastodons took the most recent game 9-5, but RMU leads the series 5-3.
Best When It's Best
Sonia Solis is batting .478 this season with runners in scoring position. She is also a perfect 4-for-4 when there is a runner on third with less than two outs, and .600 when bases are loaded.
The Complete Pitcher
Jadelyn Johnson threw a complete shutout against Detroit Mercy on Saturday, April 16. Johnson tossed a pair of strikeouts with only one walk in 25 batters. She ran through 25 batters in 1:15.
Speaking of Jade
Johnson was selected as the recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Senior in Psychology Award this year. She owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA, completed two internships this semester while play softball, which included attending meetings from the road while with the team.

Shaina Eyre is seventh in program history with 21 career wins. Eyre is also second in program history in career pitching appearances with 116, behind just Courtney Cronin (122).
