Purdue Fort Wayne Plates Six Runs in Loss at Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Purdue Fort Wayne softball dropped the opening game of a Horizon League series with Robert Morris on Friday (April 22) with an 11-6 final score.
Senior Lauren McConnell (1-6) started and took the loss in the circle for Purdue Fort Wayne (7-32, 6-12).
Freshman Brayden Lickey led the way offensively for the Mastodons, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a two-run home run. Junior Thais Uyema got two RBIs in a different way, going 2-for-3 with two singles. Brooke Wintlend and Emma McMillan also recorded an RBI each.
The Mastodons were trailing 3-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Wintlend came across to score the lone run of the inning when Thais Uyema grounded out to first. The Colonials expanded their lead to 6-1 before the Mastodons offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Purdue Fort Wayne scored two on Lickey's two-run homer to left center, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Colonials.
Purdue Fort Wayne held the Colonials off the board before narrowing the gap to 6-4 in the sixth. The Mastodons scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Uyema.
The Colonials expanded their lead to 11-4 before the Purdue Fort Wayne offense got back in gear, digging into that lead in the seventh. McMillan's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Mastodons, tightening the Robert Morris lead to 11-6, but the rally ended there.
