
'Dons Race at #HLXC Championships on Saturday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's and women's cross country teams will head to Fairborn, Ohio to compete in the 2023 Horizon League Cross Country Championships. The men's race will be an 8K with the women running a 6K. Wright State University will serve as the host of the event.

Looking Back
The Purdue Fort Wayne men's cross country team took third at the 2022 Horizon League Championships, the program's best finish ever at a league meet. On the women's side, Brooke Neal earned All-Horizon League First Team honors with her sixth-place finish. The Mastodon women finished fifth, their best finish since taking second at the 2008 Summit League meet.
Notable Finishes
The men's team started off the season on a high note with four top 10 times at the Mastodon Alumni Open. Jarred Neff finished third at 15:39.5 to rank third all-time, Nicholas Mills led a pack of Mastodons that took spots 6-9 with his time of 15:45.8. Harrison Niswander was close behind at 15:48.4, Austin Hall took 8th at 15:58.3, and Kehinde Oladapo ran 16:03.3 to take 9th.
Madison King led the women's side for most of the season and won the season's first two meets. King was the individual winner at both the Mastodon Alumni Open (17:16.7) and the Jaguar Invitational (17:17.0). Brooke Neal finished third overall but second among collegiate runners at the Mastodon Alumni (18:13.5) and was seventh at the Jaguar Invitational (18:16.4). Four more 'Dons finished in the top 10 at the Mastodon Alumni. Riley Tate finished sixth (19:05.9), Ava Genovese took seventh with her time of 19:10.7, Lydia Carrell finished eighth with her time of 19:16.4 and Faith Allen finished ninth (19:25.3).
More recently, Jarred Neff and Austin Hall finished in the top 100 of the Bradley Pink Classic. Neff led the 'Dons with a time of 25:27.7 and finished 80th overall. Hall was right behind him and crossed the line at 25:36.7 in 92nd. Harrison Niswander turned in Purdue Fort Wayne's third sub-26 time of the afternoon. He ran a time of 25:42.8 and came in 103rd place.
Madison King and Brooke Neal each finished in the top 100 of a field of over 400 runners at the Paul Short Run. King led the 'Dons with a 32nd overall finish while Neal was the next fastest Mastodon with a time of 21.29.2.
Madison King finished third overall at the Bradley Pink Classic. She ran her new personal best 6K time of 20:43.8. Brooke Neal was the next Mastodon across the line with a 40th place finish at 22:00.0. Riley Tate was the third runner for the 'Dons to finish in the top 100 with her 69th place finish at 22:21.7.

Looking Forward
Both the men's and women's teams will be heading to Madison, Wis. to take part in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The Mastodons will run at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course on Friday, November 10.

Season Notes
- Madison King was named Horizon League Runner of the Week twice this season. Her win at the Jaguar Invitational won her teh weekly award on Sept. 19 and her personal best at the Bradley Pink Classic earned the same honor on Oct. 17.
- Faith Allen was named Horizon League Runner of the Week and Freshman of the Week on Oct. 24 after winning the Wild Bill Invite.
- Five new top ten times have been run so far this season by the Mastodon men. Four of these were at the Mastodon Alumni Open as Jarred Neff (15:38.1, 3rd), Nicholas Mills (15:45.8, 6th), Harrison Niswander (15:47.0, 7th), and Kehinde Oladapo (16:02.0, 10th) ran some of the fastest 5K times in school history. Niswander added another top ten time later in the year with his 8K time of 25:24:23 at the Jaguar Invitational now ranks as the school's ninth-fastest.
- Madison King and Brooke Neal each ran their fastest 5K and 6K times this season. At the Mastodon Alumni Open, King ran a new 5K personal best of 17:16.6 as the second-fastest time in program history. Neal ran the eighth-fastest time in school history with her personal best of 18:13.4. King and Neal both ran their fastest 6Ks at the Paul Short Run with times of 21:09.1 and 21:29.2 and now rank fourth and fifth in program history.
Looking Forward
