Kai Auernheimer Wins Heptathlon at 2023 #HLTF Indoor Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Kai Auernheimer won the first Horizon League title in Purdue Fort Wayne men's track and field history on Sunday (Feb. 26) by taking first in the heptathlon during the league meet. The Mastodons hosted the event on campus at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.
Auernheimer scored a school-record 4477 points, winning the long jump and 1000 meters while taking third in the pole vault and shot put. He picked up the championship after finishing fourth last season.
He wasn't the only one scoring points for the 'Dons on Sunday as the 'Dons finished with a team score of 53, good for fifth place. It is an improvement from last season's sixth place finish for 33 points.
The Mastodon 4x400 team of Brent Donaldson, Nicolas Blair, Troy Golden and Braxton Trittipo turned in a second place finish with a time of 3:20.69.
Trittipo led the 'Dons in the 400 meters, taking third (49.70). The 800 saw Kobe Milledge earn fourth (1:57.23). Andrew Whitinger took fifth in the 3000 meters (8:37.85).
Just like on the women's side, two male shot put athletes for the Mastodons made the podium. Aaron Martin took seventh (15.15 meters) while Brevin Miller (14.49 meters) followed in eighth.
The 'Dons now turn their attention to the outdoor season.
