BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Justin Osterhouse singled in Grant Thoroman with two outs in the top of the ninth to give the Mastodon baseball team a 14-13 victory at Western Kentucky on Friday (Feb. 23). The 'Dons recorded 21 hits in the game, their most in a contest since recording 21 against Murray State in 2015. Every Mastodon starter had a hit in the game. Jacob Walker had four hits and walked twice. Thoroman and Osterhouse each had three hits.

Kevin Fee allowed only a leadoff single in the ninth to preserve the lead and get the win for the 'Dons. He allowed no earned runs in his two innings of work.

The wild affair saw WKU lead 5-0 after the first. Mastodon starter Mac Ayres was stronger after the first, earning a no-decision after 5.0 innings of work.

The 'Dons made it a game again thanks to a three spot in the second. They took their first lead of the game at 7-5 thanks to four runs in the fifth. Nick Sutherlin tied it with a two-run home run in the inning that scored Thoroman.

From there it went back and forth. The 'Dons led 9-5, before WKU tied it at nine. Both teams scored two runs in their times at-bat in the seventh and eighth. Camden Karczewski had the big hit in the eighth with a two-RBI double.

While WKU had a response for most of the afternoon, in the ninth they did not thanks to the work of Fee.

Mason Burns (1-1) took the loss for WKU. Blake Cavill drove in six for the Hilltoppers, including a sixth inning grand slam.

The 'Dons improve to 1-3. Western Kentucky falls to 3-2. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday.
